Red Wine Martini

Cocktail Version

2½ ounces dry red wine
1 ounce gin
½ ounce Rosemary simple syrup

Mocktail Version

2 ounces unsweetened Cranberry juice (or 2½ ounces non alcoholic red wine)
1 ounce tonic water (in place of the gin)
½ ounce rosemary simple syrup

Combine 2 ½ ounces dry red wine, 1 ounce gin, and ½ ounce Rosemary simple syrup (recipe follows) in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into a martini or coupe glass, then garnish with a lemon twist and a sprig of Rosemary.

For the simple syrup:

Stir together ½ cup sugar, ½ cup water, and 3 sprigs of rosemary in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and continue to cook for 2 minutes once boiling. Remove from the heat, and let cool completely. Store syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
