What is it about seeing an antique car that makes you feel happy? Timelessness. Hear us out. When you are young and see a classic car, you feel a sense of wonder. What was it like “back in the day”? Questions run through your head. Can you imagine when there were no seatbelts, electric windows, and only a radio for your tunes, or no radio at all? What must it have been like to walk on a showroom floor and buy a brand new 1958 Chevy? As we get older, our thoughts start to change. We see an antique roll by, and suddenly, we are transported. We can remember what it was like to be a kid in that car or, better yet, learn how to drive it. We’ve all looked around at our current vehicles and wondered, “Will this car be collectible one day?” It’s personal. It represents a moment in time for all of us. A tangible connection to the past and a reminder of how important it is to sustain for the future.
Interest in preserving old cars began in the 1930s and continues to captivate enthusiasts today. Their incredible design and impeccable craftsmanship represent an essential part of automotive history. There are varying definitions of what constitutes a classic, vintage, or antique car, but in general, it has to do with the age and condition of the vehicle. Vintage cars have a narrower age range but can be modified without affecting their status. Classic and Antique have a more comprehensive range of age categories. However, the vehicles must keep their original factory condition as much as possible. The classification is also based on state law, so each one can vary depending on where you live. Their history connects us to the evolution of the automobile industry and unfolds a timeline of design, technology, and culture.
