Five Winter Farmers Market Finds In Hershey, PA

Posted on

At the Inn on Church Road, we are passionate about many things, but food may top our list. Not just any food…fresh, local, made from scratch. Nothing makes us happier than sitting around our dining room table with you, an aromatic cup of freshly ground coffee (thanks to our Jura and Lancaster County Coffee Roasters), and our homemade banana bread French toast with local country sausage or thick-cut bacon. We strive for perfection every time and want you to feel the love we put into preparing every bite.

Our commitment to supporting local farmers and vendors is unwavering. The Fresh Market at Hershey Town Square, a personal favorite, is a treasure trove of over 40 local vendors. It’s not just a market; it’s an experience. From fresh organic produce to grass-fed meats, mushrooms, cheese, honey, and more, the market is a paradise for food enthusiasts. Each stand offers a unique and delicious experience that you won’t want to miss!  Below are a few of our favorite must-visit spots for sourcing the best ingredients to stock our pantry.

  1. Latimore Valley Farms: Located in York Springs, PA, Latimore Valley Farms has been certified organic since 2000. Their farm covers nearly 300 acres and produces vegetables, fruit, grains, and hay. They also raise beautiful Texas Longhorn cattle, crossbred pigs, and free-range chickens. Their animals are humanely raised on the farm from day one, and they take great care and pride in bringing you the best quality.  Their fresh country breakfast sausage is one of our absolute favorites at the Inn! They are set up at The Fresh Market at Hershey Town Square on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Check out their website for more details.
  2. S. Clyde Weaver’s: Founded in 1920 by S. Clyde and Emma Weaver, they are family-owned by third and fourth generations. They are committed to bringing you the best from their smoked meats, including hand-processed ham, pork chops, bacon, bologna, delicious smoked cheeses, and an impressive list of cheddar. Don’t forget their fresh baked goods like shoo-fly pies, whoopie pies, and sand tart cookies. Our favorite? We don’t leave without stocking up with thick-cut bacon! Check out their website for more details.
  3. Stoltzfus Family Produce: Certified organic since 2008, Stoltzfus Family Produce offers a taste of tradition and wholesomeness. Their time-honored organic farming methods ensure the highest quality, evident with every bite, and their mission is to bring you the freshest local fruits and vegetables. We love to fill our basket with fresh organic vegetables!
  4. Bennet Run Mushroom Farm: If you are obsessed with mushrooms like us, you will not want to miss visiting the Bennet Run Mushroom stand. Located in Northern York County, the farm’s passion is providing you with fresh, sustainably grown gourmet mushrooms. They offer a variety of exceptional selections, including Shiitake, Blue Oyster, and Chestnut. Rich with protein and robust with flavor, we love making this one of our weekly market stops. Our favorite? We can’t pick just one! Check out their website for more details.
  5. Midstate Distillery: When you are ready to take a shopping respite, we suggest stopping at Midstate Distillery and indulging in some libations! This family-run small-batch distillery is passionate about artisanal spirits. Established in 2016, it is Harrisburg’s first distillery since Prohibition. They connect with businesses across PA and strive to use as many local ingredients as possible. Their Pennsyltucky Five Grain Bourbon is a standout favorite, and we love to showcase it in several of our signature happy hour cocktails at the Inn. Check out their website for more details.
