After years of hosting, we’ve learned that a really good breakfast gets people asking questions. Our guests want to know about the technique behind our blueberry cornbread waffles, the secret to making a perfect strata, or how Hannah gets her granola just right.
That’s why we started offering cooking classes at our Hershey bed and breakfast. A few times a year, we open our kitchen for small, hands-on culinary weekends where guests work alongside Hannah instead of just watching. You learn real techniques, ask all the questions you want, and sit down together afterward to enjoy what you’ve made.
About Chef Hannah
Hannah is a Pennsylvania farm country native who grew up surrounded by good food and the people who made it. She holds both a Culinary Arts degree and a Baking & Pastry Arts degree from Pennsylvania College of Technology at Penn State University, training that gave her a strong foundation in technique, while her experiences working in different kitchens have continued to shape the way she cooks.
Her love of travel has taken her around the world, living and working in places like Switzerland and Japan, picking up flavors and methods along the way. But her real passion is teaching. Hannah believes that cooking should feel accessible, not intimidating, and she’s dedicated to helping others feel confident in the kitchen. During a class, you’ll see that firsthand. She walks you through each step, explains the why behind the technique, and makes sure you leave feeling like you can actually do this at home.
What the Classes Are Like
These aren’t the kind of classes where you sit and watch a demonstration. In our chef led cooking classes, you’ll be at the counter with a knife in your hand, working through each step alongside Hannah and the other guests. Groups are small, with no more than eight people, so there’s plenty of time to ask questions, work through the techniques, and get Hannah’s help when you need it.
Each retreat is built around a two or three night stay at the inn. Mornings start with Hannah’s seasonal breakfast. Classes happen in the afternoon or evening, depending on the theme. And in between, you have time to explore Hershey, relax by the fire, or just enjoy the quiet of a weekend away.
It’s like a date night cooking class, stretched into an entire getaway. You’re learning something new together, eating well, and coming home with recipes and skills you’ll actually use.
This Season’s Culinary Getaways
We have three culinary weekends planned for 2026, each with its own theme and menu.
Midnight Manor (October 30th & 31st) is a grown-up take on Halloween. Friday evening, you’ll mix cocktails and put together a charcuterie board with Hannah. Saturday afternoon focuses on elegant small bites: black deviled eggs tinted with squid ink, beet and goat cheese crostini, seared hanger steak with black garlic aioli, and coffee chocolate mousse.
Spectacular Holiday Cookies (December 4th & 5th) is for anyone who binge-watches baking shows on Food Network during the holidays or has a camera roll full of screenshots of beautifully decorated cookies but never quite manages to recreate them. Friday night is dough making. Saturday you’ll roll and bake with our specialty holiday cutters, then learn royal icing from start to finish. Hannah covers consistency, piping, flooding, and the small tricks that make a real difference. Enjoy delicious house-made hot chocolate with all your favorite toppings as you decorate.
Around the World at Midnight (December 31st through January 3rd) is for couples who’d rather skip the crowded parties and noisy countdowns. Thursday evening features Spanish tapas and wine with a champagne toast at midnight. Friday opens with a late New Year’s brunch, followed by Sushi 101 in the evening. Saturday afternoon brings French macarons. It’s three nights of good food, good company, and a chance to start the year learning something new.
Why Cooking Together Makes a Great Date Night in Hershey
There’s something about a couples cooking class that brings people closer. You’re working toward the same goal, tasting as you go, laughing when something doesn’t go quite as planned. It’s a different kind of date night in Hershey than sitting across from each other at a restaurant, as lovely as that can be.
These weekends also give you a chance to enjoy Hershey in a different way. You’re not rushing from one attraction to the next or trying to fill every hour of the day. There’s time for breakfast, time in the kitchen, time to explore Hershey, and time to simply enjoy being here.
And, of course, you leave with something to take home with you. Whether it’s a new technique, a favorite recipe, or the confidence to finally try making those decorated cookies yourself, we hope you leave feeling inspired to get back in your own kitchen.
